July 04, 2024 Kordz Uncovers Surprising Cabling Requirements for Wi-Fi 7 in New Podcast

Released July 4, 2024

Connectivity experts share the realities of Wi-Fi 7 and new demands it presents for cabling and prewire practices in a recent AV Trade Talks episode.

Systems integration is at the precipice of faster, more reliable, higher capacity Wi-Fi connectivity enabled by the up-and-coming Wi-Fi 7 communications standard. Wi-Fi 7, also known as 802.11be, promises significant improvements over previous Wi-Fi standards, including increased data rates, lower latency and enhanced network efficiency. Although this newest generation of Wi-Fi has yet to make a significant impact on the systems integration market, it behoves professional integrators to prepare for the ‘next big thing’ in Wi-Fi connectivity. Part of the preparation, according to the panellists of the provocative podcast available here, is the implementation of better, higher quality Ethernet cabling.

Global connectivity expert and Kordz managing director, James Chen, along with esteemed special guests Nathan Holmes of Why Reboot and Eddie Shapiro of SmartTouchUSA agree that Cat 6A cabling is the answer to this new infrastructural requirement and encourage integrators who may be using Cat 5E and Cat 6 to consider Cat 6A cabling for future projects.

During the informative podcast episode, Mastering Connectivity: Why Cat 6 Won’t Cut It with Wi-Fi 7, the panelists outline the steps to determine if and when to prewire homes and buildings with Cat 6A cabling, the best installation practices to follow, and where to find robust certified and tested cabling that can support a seamless transition to Wi-Fi 7.

Wi-Fi 7 offers many performance advantages, but only if a home or building’s cabling backbone is up to the task. For additional insights and recommendations about how to ready a building for Wi-Fi 7, listen to the entire podcast here.
